OBITUARY FOR JOSEPH GIRARDI
Joseph “Joe” Girardi, 65, of Delray Beach, FL died unexpectedly on September 10, 2015, at Bethesda Memorial Hospital.
Joe was born on March 6, 1950 in Larchmont, NY to parents Rose Roma Girardi and Natale Girardi. He graduated from Arlington High School in La Grangeville, NY in 1968. Joe was employed by International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137 in Briarcliff Manor, NY until relocating to Florida where he was employed by Operating Engineers Local 675, Pompano Beach. Joe was an Operating Engineer for 46 years.
Affectionately known as “Jojo”, he took the role of brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to heart and strove to honor, support, guide and most importantly, protect his family. Jojo’ s love for his family and family tradition’s made him who he was. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his loved ones, and sharing his embellished stories. His kind and generous spirit allowed him to connect with everyone, and made every single person feel that no matter what, he had all the time in the world for them. Jojo was loved so dearly and we will forever and always cherish the fond memories that can never be replaced.
He is survived by those who meant the world to him – his sister Diane Gozza Haywood and her husband James Haywood of Milton, NY; Niece Cheryl Ciaio and her children, Shanna Ciaio, Anthony DeRasmo and Jalyssa Early of Kingston; Nephew John Ciaio and his children, John, Brandon, Tayla and Abriele Ciaio of Marlboro, NY; Niece April Gozza, her husband John McElrath and their children, Dominic Santora, John McElrath and Ava McElrath of Marlboro, NY; and several great-great nieces, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his father Natale G. Girardi, mother, Rose Roma Girardi and sister Lucille Girardi Reynolds formerly of Larchmont and Beekman, NY.
The visitation will be held at Scarano Funeral Home, Pines Memorial Chapel, 9000 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines, Florida on Saturday, September 19 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. A mass will be held immediately following at 1 p.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 701 North Hiatus Road Pembroke Pines, FL.
A reception will be held at 4 PM, at High Point 4 Club House, 824 Club Drive, Delray Beach, FL; all are welcome to attend to celebrate Joe’s life.
A memorial service will also be held in New York on October 3 at 12PM at The Church of St. Denis, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or charity of your choice.
